Sail Melbourne Heats Up !

Summer arrived in Melbourne for the first day of racing in the ISAF Sailing World Cup 2013.

A hot northerly wind from Australia’s outback blasted across the city and onto Port Phillip. In the early morning the breeze driven by temperatures in the mid to high 30’s, gusted to 25 knots but had eased to a more pleasant 15 knots by the start of racing.

Only 4 days until the 2013 ISAF Sailing World Cup Melbourne Kicks off at Sandringham Yacht Club, 1-8 December.
Make sure you get down there and check out all the action and support the Aussie sailors.
Next event is the 2013/14 Open Laser Nationals starting on the 27th December @ Mc Crae Yacht Club, Victoria.

Lead up to Oman….

Nick Thompson, with three World Championship medals already under his belt is in no doubt as to where his sights lie heading into next week’s Laser World Championships in Oman (17-23 November).

The 27-year-old is aiming for his first world title at the Al-Mussanah Sports City, having made the podium at the last three World Championships he’s contested, in 2009, 2010 and 2011.

Western Australia Laser Dinghy Championship 2013. Most classes go through participation ebbs and flows, in the WA dinghy sailing scene but the Laser class attracts strong numbers year after year. Despite being an old design the boats simplicity, affordability, convenience, accessibility and ability to cater for such a diverse range of ages, and shapes and sizes makes it a modern day classic.
